The Rural Retreat – Country Residential Living

In and around the city of Saskatoon more and more rural subdivisions are popping up.  In fact, you can look in just about any direction leaving Saskatoon and find some smaller and some larger subdivisions at various phases of construction.

It’s no wonder since rural living is quickly becoming an attractive home ownership option.  You can still have a sense of community and neighbours close-by while enjoying a rural lifestyle.

Why live outside of the city?

Aside from the obvious benefits of quieter and more relaxed lifestyle, there are some additional benefits where real estate is concerned.

Depending on the rural subdivision you are living in, the cost per square foot of home and land may be more reasonably priced than living within the city limits.

Lot sizes generally are larger – usually 5 or more acres per parcel.

Property taxes may be more modest than in the city, but usually because there are fewer city benefits like paved roads, sidewalks, etc.

Some important things to consider …

The further away from the city you get, the chances of having city utility services may be reduced.  If water quality is important to you, and it should be, you’ll want to make sure to check into utility services in a subdivision you’re interested in.

Saskatchewan is well known for it’s inclement weather during the winter months.  As hale and hardy residents we don’t let a little snow get us down. Still, take the winter road conditions into consideration when looking at rural subdivisions.

Rural Subdivisions Around Saskatoon

There are more subdivisions than possible to list in a single blog post, but here are a few of the more noteworthy subdivisions around Saskatoon.

Support the RE/MAX Renegades for Children’s Wish Foundation

We are excited to be a part of the RE/MAX Renegades, one of 10 corporate teams in Saskatoon, who are participating in the Corporate Challenge Event  “Exile Island” for Children’s Wish Foundation.

Over the last 4 years, Exile Island has raised over $1.4 million from coast to coast in Canada.  In Saskatchewan alone, since 2009 tribes have raised $260,000, enabling many children coping with a life threatening disease or illness to receive their special wish.

So how does it all work?

Across Canada corporate teams are formed with a goal of raising money for children in need.  Each team in Saskatchewan is charged with the task of raising $10,000.  With average costs running at $10,000 per wish, generous donations ensure that deserving children and families enjoy the magic of dreams come true.

The RE/MAX Renegades are a small team of just 9 castaways trying to raise money for one little boy with a rare autoimmune disorder.  His wish is to take his family on a Disney cruise and swim with friendly dolphins.

Spring Is Upon Us

Hello Again!

With spring upon us things have been pretty busy in the Saskatoon area, and with spring comes outdoor activities which is the main focus of today’s post.  On May 19th RE/MAX Saskatoon will be participating in a fundraiser for Childrens Miracle Foundation.  The Make A Wish Foundation is requesting a donation of $10,000 per tribe for this years ‘Exile Island’ we are called the RE/MAX Renegades and I am have a hard time finding fundraisers which is why i come to you!  Our team is made up of ten participants each set to raise $1,000 for a grand total of $10,000 to grant a child’s wish.  Below is a link for the website where you can make a donation and all efforts would be greatly appreciated!

Month of February in Review

With the busy month of February finally behind us, I thought I would update the readers on the market in regards to Saskatoon and surrounding area.

The overall MLS listings throughout the Saskatoon and surround area were up 9% from last year with a grand total of 788 new homes for sale.  The amount of homes that actually sold were 355 homes which is up 22% from February 2010.

Within the City of Saskatoon limits 545 homes were listed on the market and 282 active homes sold in the month of February, which is up 17% & 20% from the previous year.

The total amount of homes sold as of February 28th 2011 within Saskatoon including January are 476  and the area surround Saskatoon were 120 homes that have sold to day.

These statistics prove that things are on the up swing with market activity and with such a strong start to 2011 underway we are looking forward to the remainder of 2011.  With 515 licensed REALTORS in and around the Saskatoon Area its important to shop around when dealing with a REALTOR whether your buying or selling, be sure you weigh your options and find someone who is going to go the extra mile to assist you in any and all your real estate needs.
